A child and a local journalist were shot to death near the scene of a previous shooting in Florida Wednesday afternoon. Authorities said the two were among several dead.
The Orange County Sheriff John Mina announced at a press conference that they arrested Keith Melvin Moses, 19, for the shootings in a neighborhood in the Orlando area.
A 9-year-old girl and the TV crew member needed critical care from a local hospital after being wounded during the second shooting. Additionally, a Spectrum News 13 journalist suffered gunshot wounds and survived.
In his opening statement, Mina addressed the difficulty of her day as a journalist in the face of gun violence. The 9-year-old girl who was shot in the head, the mother who was injured by a stray bullet and the other media professionals all became victims of this violence. No one in our community — not children, their mothers or newspaper employees — should be affected by indiscriminate gunfire.
