LOS ANGELES - A former Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer has been apprehended and is now under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting at least four boys. The arrest of Paul Razo, which took place on May 10, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of children in the area, according to authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The investigation into Razo's alleged crimes is being carried out by the Special Victims Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Thus far, the L.A. County District Attorney's office has filed a total of eight counts of lewd acts with a child against Razo. The incidents in question are reported to have occurred between 2007 and 2016, during the time when Razo resided in the Covina area and served as an active LAPD officer.
Shockingly, two of the victims are said to be Razo's relatives, further intensifying the gravity of the alleged crimes. The authorities have not released specific details regarding the ages or identities of the victims in order to protect their privacy during this sensitive time.
Razo's bail has been set at an astonishing $2.5 million, reflecting the severity of the charges brought against him. Presently, he remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has issued a statement expressing concerns about the potential existence of additional unidentified victims due to Razo's alleged access to children. Detectives working on the case are urging anyone with information or who may have been victimized to come forward and aid in the ongoing investigation. Their cooperation will be crucial in bringing justice to the victims and holding Razo accountable for his alleged actions.
The arrest of a former law enforcement officer for such heinous crimes is deeply troubling, as it highlights the vulnerability that can exist when individuals abuse their positions of authority and trust. The LAPD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are committed to fully investigating these allegations and ensuring that any additional victims receive the support and justice they deserve.
As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in safeguarding children and holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their background or profession. The community must remain united in its efforts to protect the most vulnerable members and seek justice for those who have suffered at the hands of predators.
